What We Do

What Is Physiotherapy?

Veterinary Physiotherapy is a conservative, holistic method that helps to restore movement to an animal after an injury, illness or disability. It can also help to prevent further injury. This is done through the use of massage, manual therapies, rehabilitative exercise, heat and cryotherapy, and electrotherapy techniques.

Veterinary physiotherapy can be used to treat a variety of conditions and species, including dogs, cats, horses, cows, sheep and more.

Who Can Benefit From Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy can help treat a variety of conditions in many different species. Some examples of conditions include:

  • Arthritis and pain management

  • Injuries affecting the bones, muscles and soft tissue, such as sporting injuries

  • Degenerative conditions such as canine degenerative myelopathy

  • Neurological deficits

  • Weight loss

  • Performance enhancement

  • Fitness

What Happens in a Physiotherapy Appointment?

Once a referral from your veterinary surgeon has been received and your appointment confirmed, your veterinary physiotherapist will visit your home. First there will be a short conversation about your animal, including what has happened and their home environment. Then, the physiotherapist will thoroughly assess your animal's movement and body, finding areas of discomfort so they can be treated. Finally, the physiotherapist will treat your animal with the appropriate equipment and set some home exercises for you to do in between appointments.

Frontier Veterinary Physiotherapy is proud to be able to offer electrotherapy treatments, such as LASER therapy and Pulsed Electromagnetic Emission therapy. Please ask for more information if you are interested in these techniques.
